Advent Workshop
Get ready to deck the halls at our Advent Workshop. We’ll be trimming beeswax candles, putting up the tree, assembling the Christmas putz, and hanging decorations galore around the church. To enhance the atmosphere, we’ll have delightful Christmas music playing in the background. In addition there will be tasty snacks, friendly faces, and fun activities. It’s a festive time, and everyone’s invited! Our advent workshop usually takes place the Sunday before the First Sunday in Advent.
Christmas Eve Candlelight
Service
Tuesday, December 24, 2024
The Christmas Eve candlelight service features candles that have been adorned in the same manner for more than 250 years. Originating in Saxony, Germany, Bishop DeWatteville was the first to attach red ribbons to the children's candles, helping them to remember the blood-red flame of love ignited in their hearts by Jesus. This service emphasizes Jesus' love, with beeswax candles symbolizing His purity. The hymn "Morning Star," composed in 1657, is traditionally sung during the service, with the congregation participating antiphonally. It is a great honor for children to be selected for the solo parts. The Moravian star is displayed from Advent through Christmas to remind us of the Divine Star. Come and celebrate this truly meaningful service with us through uplifting hymns, choir anthems, scripture readings, and a heartfelt message. As the service comes to a close, our choir performs an anthem titled “One Flame,” leading to a joyful rendition of “Joy to the World,” where the congregation is invited to join in.
